Does anyone know if Sonos is planning to release a new version of the Sonos Beam with Dolby Atmos support?

It’s probably unlikely since the current Beam is still extremely popular and they already offer a Dolby Atmos soundbar with the Sonos Arc.

Does anyone know if Sonos is planning to release a new version of the Sonos Beam with Dolby Atmos support?

You need to sit fairly close to the Arc to hear the height channel speakers. I have flat 8 ft ceilings and my Arc is 6 ft from the ceiling. I need to sit from 5-8 ft from the Arc to hear the height channels well.

I’m in a standard new build house with flat ceilings

the arc just sits on a tv stand

How high are your ceilings? Are your ceilings flat with no obstruction? How far is the Arc from your ceiling? How far are you seated from the Arc?

Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference with the height audio

Ok nice one

You need to find a Dolby Atmos source with distinct height channel audio playing and adjust the height audio level slider until it sounds good to your ears.

Is it just trial and error or does the measurements determine how high u need to set it?

Userlevel 7

Oh is it worth me turning up the height volume on mine?
I didn’t know what that option meant

Yes, in most cases you should turn the height audio level up. I have mine set to +6. Usually, the higher your ceilings are, the higher the level should be increased.

Brilliant cheers

yeah I have the top Netflix package

can u notice much difference in Dolby atmos?

yes, but I needed to turn up the volume of the height channel in the sonos app, I have it at +3 now. In some scenes there was sounds clearly coming from the ceiling, also the overall sound seems to be more immersive

For some reason Dolby atmos is greyed out

but I think it’s all set up

that dolby atmos switch is only enabled when using internal speakers, other settings appear to be fine, you should see the atmos logo in the sonos app when playing content with atmos soundtrack from internal apps like Netflix or Disney+. But keep in mind that for having atmos from Netflix you need the UHD plan

Good. That’s what you want to see. It means everything is set up correctly and you are getting the best audio that you can get from the Sonos Arc.

So when I play a movie on Netflix with Dolby atmos

it says Dolby atmos on the sonos app

Do you have the latest firmware installed?

Is Simplink turned on?

Does the Dolby Atmos option change when watching a Dolby Atmos source like a movie on Netflix?

FYI… you need a premium Netflix subscription to get Dolby Atmos audio.

According to my research, the LG B8 should be able to pass through Dolby Atmos audio.

TV Settings:

  1. Be sure you have the latest firmware installed.
  2. Be sure Simplink (CEC) is enabled.
  3. Run TV Setup in the Sonos app and connect the Arc to the TV’s HDMI ARC port.
  4. Under Sound, set “Dolby Atmos” to On.
  5. Under Sound Out, Audio Out should be set to “HDMI ARC”.
  6. Under Audio Out, Digital Sound Out should be set to “Auto” (or “Pass Through” if available) and Simplink should be “On”.

Think my tv just says hdmi arc

If you want 5.1 audio to play out of your speakers, you need to make sure your TV is set to the proper settings to pass through 5.1 audio. You also need to make sure your source is actually playing in 5.1 audio and not stereo. I’m not sure if Freeview has a lot of channels that support 5.1 audio, but Netflix has plenty of shows and movies that are in 5.1.

Just one more question

By connecting the arc to the tv

does it automatically play 5.1?

for free view or Netflix?

Oh that’s a shame

thanks for ur help mate
