So when I play a movie on Netflix with Dolby atmos

it says Dolby atmos on the sonos app

Good. That’s what you want to see. It means everything is set up correctly and you are getting the best audio that you can get from the Sonos Arc.

Oh is it worth me turning up the height volume on mine?
I didn’t know what that option meant

Yes, in most cases you should turn the height audio level up. I have mine set to +6. Usually, the higher your ceilings are, the higher the level should be increased.

Is it just trial and error or does the measurements determine how high u need to set it?

Userlevel 7

You need to find a Dolby Atmos source with distinct height channel audio playing and adjust the height audio level slider until it sounds good to your ears.

Ok nice one

Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference with the height audio

How high are your ceilings? Are your ceilings flat with no obstruction? How far is the Arc from your ceiling? How far are you seated from the Arc?

Badge +1

I’m in a standard new build house with flat ceilings

the arc just sits on a tv stand

Userlevel 7

You need to sit fairly close to the Arc to hear the height channel speakers. I have flat 8 ft ceilings and my Arc is 6 ft from the ceiling. I need to sit from 5-8 ft from the Arc to hear the height channels well.

If you are playing Dolby Atmos music or a movie on a device that supports Dolby Atmos, and your TV can pass through Dolby Atmos, you will hear Dolby Atmos audio from all of your speakers.

Ok so I wouldn’t need to upgrade the sub to gen 3? Or the ones to one so’s?

how do u know if the arc is playing Dolby atmos?

my LG tv is only 2 years old and says it has Dolby atmos

Userlevel 7

No, you do not need to upgrade the Sub or Ones.

What model LG do you have?

The Dolby Atmos logo will appear on the Now Playing screen in the Sonos app when you are playing Atmos audio:

Ah ok

im not sure the model till I get home

it is oled though

I play my music though Apple Music

does the beam support all this? I have it upstairs

Badge +1

Also by not upgrading the ones or sub they would still play in Dolby atmos?

Userlevel 7

No, the Beam does not support Dolby Atmos audio. The Beam only supports up to Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

You do not need to upgrade the Sub and Ones to get Dolby Atmos audio. It will play out of every speaker in your 5.1.2 Arc/Sub/Ones setup as long as you meet the criteria in my original post.

Currently, the only way to listen to Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos music from Apple Music on the Arc is through the Apple Music app on an Apple TV 4K connected to a TV equipped with HDMI eARC or an HDFury eARC adapter.

5.1.2?

I only play music through the Apple Music app

Userlevel 7

Read this article to learn about what 5.1.2 stands for:

I was just pointing out that you need an Apple TV 4K and a TV equipped with HDMI eARC to get Dolby Atmos music from Apple Music to play out of the Arc.

Ah ok so sending over from the Apple Music app doesn’t work?

Ah ok so sending over from the Apple Music app doesn’t work?

The music won’t play in Dolby Atmos if you are streaming it from your phone, computer, or from the Sonos app.

Just one more question

By connecting the arc to the tv

does it automatically play 5.1?

for free view or Netflix?

Userlevel 7

If you want 5.1 audio to play out of your speakers, you need to make sure your TV is set to the proper settings to pass through 5.1 audio. You also need to make sure your source is actually playing in 5.1 audio and not stereo. I’m not sure if Freeview has a lot of channels that support 5.1 audio, but Netflix has plenty of shows and movies that are in 5.1.
