Spotify artist search not working

Desktop and Android app have started telling me "spotify returned no results for _____ in artists. Please try a different category or a new search term" this morning. Has replicated on multiple devices. Only happens for Spotify and only in "artists", albums and playlist search still works. Any idea if I changed a setting or if something is wrong on their end?

I’ve reset the speakers and restarted the apps.

In case it’s helpful this still didn’t work for me today. No Spotify search results appearing within the Sonos app.

I then removed the Tidal service from Sonos and Spotify search results started appearing again.

I’m pleased to report that Spotify artist search is working again. But Sonos keeps losing its connection to Spotify, which I’ll report as a separate thread.

Fixed for me - and without an app update! Thanks to Sonos for prioritizing this bug.

works fine for me as well; thanks for solving, the engineer in me would love to know the source of the problem and the solution …. but my thanks for the resolution

Thank you – whoever fixed it. At least we all know we’re not going mad thinking we were doing something wrong!

Working for me in the Windows app now.

It seems to work on IOS and MacOs … still curious what caused it.

Hi @conor et al

We believe this issue has, again, been resolved and we can no longer reproduce it in our own testing. If you do continue to see this issue, however, please get in touch with our technical support team to report as much. Thank you.

+1 for same issue with Spotify not returning search results.

I am running S1 Controller on both iOS and macOS, and the issue happens on both. I am able to get Spotify search results with the “[search_term]” trick on both mobile and desktop. This started last week, had never seen this until then, but glad I stumbled on this thread.

As of today, August 28, the issue seems to either be resolved or temporarily fixed, and I am able to search for artist names — without using quotations — and get results in the S1 Controller in both iOS and MacOS. Fingers crossed that it’s a permanent fix!

“Yes the double quotation “” is a fix, but a temporary fix. We need a permanent fix. It’s annoying to put “_” everytime I want to search in Spotify. And believe me I’m not going to throw away my Sonos investment because of stupid Spotify.

Please (also) send a complaint to Spotify.

Alas I am having same problem - using Sonos and then searching thru Spotify gives nil result for artists or albums etc - Unless you can help/reach out Sonos I think time to abandon you/Sonos. Very disappointing after such an investment and supporting you over the years.

I am also having this search problem … it is shocking to see how widespread this seems to be and how Sonos is unable to respond.  The Double Quotes workaround is really not practical … it requires entering the entire Artist name every time

Like a number of other long time faithful Sonos customers, this might drive me to alternative solutions

The double quotes works for me too! You have to type the full name. Great fix- thanks

On a Macbook.  Double quotes around an artist name along did not work.  However, putting an artist in quotes & pressing enter key did work.

Odd tidbit...a straight search for R.E.M. worked just fine.

At least there is a work around...

I’m having the same issue on my PC, spotify search not providing any results. The search works fine in the Sonos app on my android phone, so it’s not a spotify issue. I came to this thread hoping for a fix….

Both PC and mobile apps, because the ‘work’ is done on Spotify’s servers, and the data is fed back to Sonos for display.

I’m having this too. Sonos 1, both PC and mobile apps faulty. Re installed and re authorised but no joy. In the UK.

Same problem. it does not seem this will be resolved, I am going to scrap my Sonos speakers and look elsewhere

The double quotes thing works for me on Spotify, too, thanks, although overall behavior is still inconsistent. For example, if I type ‘rolling’ (not including the single quotes) in the search (S1), it finds Rolling Stones content in my Music Library, in Pandora, and in Plex, but nothing from Spotify.  If I type “the rolling stones” in the search, it finds Rolling Stones content in Pandora, Plex, and Spotify, but not in my Music Library. Music Library search doesn’t seem to like the double quotes at all.

@drittman ...I tried your double quotes work-around.   That worked.  Thanks much.    Agree, would be great if Sonos helped a bit more.
