Worst most complicated piece you'll ever buy. Avoid at ALL costs

Don't Buy. Never been able to get it working properly. You can't even make it useful by plugging in your iPhone into it with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead. Its not plug and play which is basic for most systems.....You have to tell it to do that function with the controller.....Absolute S**T

Flawless performance. Amazing sound. Perfect audio sync. Op expends the energy to complain but never once considers calling tech support. Sonos tech support is the best - they're all network experts. One call and it could all be fixed. But it's more fun to post drivel.

I'm guessing Ray has other issues besides getting two speakers to work.
yeah, after using it for 2 years with 3 speakers and being confined to the Sonos platform (can't even stream video sound through Sonos, and importing your own music library is hit or miss - I've given up), and seeing "Sonos was unable to connect" every 5 minutes or so, I can now honestly say that THIS SYSTEM IS AN OVERPRICED PIECE OF SHIT! Which is a shame, it could have so much potential, but hey. The market will decide, my bet is that they won't be around for more than 2 years or so and then slowly fade into the black hole of useless tech crap. Adios.
They have doubled their sales every year since 2010, and are approaching $1 Billion in sales this year. Your marketing analysis needs some work.

System Engineer doesn't always equal network engineer.

DHCP requests happen at startup, then renewals happen at half the lease time. This is automatic as part of the DHCP process. As long as a device remains active on the network and the DHCP server remembers what leases it has handed out, there aren't usually issues with a device's IP address becoming used by a new device.

As for the neighboring devices part, all of the Sonos devices are regularly broadcasting their presence on the network anyway, for a variety of reasons (controller discovery, DLNA/UPNP, etc.), so it really doesn't matter if it has the same address all the time or not. Sonos devices will know and track each others' IP addresses because of those broadcasts.

Personally I set up DHCP reservations for my Sonos devices, so they all have the same IP address all the time. I also give them unique hostnames that resolve through my router's DNS, so I can uniquely identify them with a ping command or in a browser (rather than have them all register with the hostname "SonosZP"). Is this a necessary step? Not at all. But I do it because I want that level of control on my network.

Maybe the teenager is a good idea!  I thought it was simple to set up but maybe not for all?

Ray, that is not very polite. Chris was just trying to point out some of the technical marvels that Sonos offer.

If you are having problems you could try asking in a civilized manner instead of coming here to insult people.

The issues I was originally referring to do not require an engineer.

@Ray Foster,

Do you have some type of socialization problem that you must berate and insult anyone who tries to help you?  Seek professional help.

You should call sonos especially with your other units most likely needing a manual update because the firmware is too old for an auto update.

Bbc issue is a bbc issue not sonos. Sonos has made statements they are researching what they can do regarding bbc changes that are effecting all streaming devices.

Why oh why don't sonos just add bbc iPlayer radio to the interface like they have Spotify etc !??
Richard, I have to pay for a TV license that funds all BBC services, why should other countries outside the UK have access to a service they have not paid into.

I've had mine for a couple of years now ( connect , play 3 and 2 play 1's ) great at first but now all sorts of problems ... BBC listen again shows are no longer available , radio stations very hit and miss and Spotify is always going wrong !
Direct your annoyance at the BBC

I've never had any trouble but my system is very small in fact at the moment just a play 1, before adding any more speakers I will look at the LG music flow system, looks more flexible.
More flexible until a new audio format like Dolby Atmos is implemented by TV manufacturers and you snazzy new LG flow doesn't support it.

If the BBC hadn't changed their services the other day we wouldn't be having this conversation, have you vented your frustration at the BBC why via TuneIn radio on the sonos controller you are having issues all no longer can get BBC radio.

Because as manufacturers develope new products they decide what features and functions their new product will have and although they might be aware of emerging technologies like Dolby Atmos they may choose for that new device not to include Dolby Atmos. So like the PlayBar when it first came out sonos made the decision not to include or support for argument sake Dolby True Stereo, now twelve months down the road you buy a new TV that passes all the latest Dolby formats but your PlayBar can't process some of them. If we all waitied for the latest tech to support the latest amazing resolution and audio then we would be waiting a long time as technology is changing and evolving on a daily basis. Let's look a 4K - obsolete 8K will be out soon, so that 3 grand I spend less than 6 months ago on a Panasonic 58" 4K TV was a waste of money - was it? Should I have waited for 8K to come out and a PlayBar that supports Dolby Atmos via HDMI?

Richard believe it or not I'm on your side and sonos I do believe have been working with TuneIn to try and resolve this issue. Don't quote me on that!

So what your saying is that both systems are already put of date BUT the LG flow at present is more technically advanced than songs and will remain that way until songs produce new speakers with new tech built in ?

Yes I know Dave and don't take my comments as anything but venting my frustrations , I do realise sonos are trying to resolve this issue I just have no faith in the tune in way around it . The fact they haven't just added the bbc I radio / player is probably more to do with politics than technical . Oh well fingers crossed , good night 

I have to disagree on that, sonos are a premium brand and offer a premium product. Yes it's easy to compare other products in the same market that may offer better function/feature but as for design/build quality and most importantly to me great customer service. For me I would rather spend more money to have great design, build quality and customer service no matter who's products I'm buying from a new sofa to a new computer.

Well I have to get to bed now, so thanks for the discussion and I'm always aware of all the posts on ask.sonos and willing to help if you have an issue - just create or find a topic that matches your issue and post away.

Yes ... simple things like you can set the speaker so you don't have to use controller and 3.5mm input will autoconnect.
You should have gotten a Play:5 then. But the product correct for your situation.

Someone please delete this thread, if you don't like sonos or don't bother understanding what you are investing your money into then don't complain when it doesn't do what you just expected it to do. So go and rant and rave in private as you're all given me a headache - might have to go and relaxe to some tunes in the bath.

I don't think you will see any quality difference using a 3.5mm to Rca cable. Yes digital input only playbar has would be best.

Unfortunately people don't research what they are buying and blame the product for not doing what they had intentions for vs buying the proper product or device. Or not knowing how to properly use what they bought or educate how.
