I’m going to raise this topic one more time in the hopes that someone from Sonos will respond. As many others have noted in the countless threads on this topic, there are requests for this feature that go back 15 years.  And before someone chimes in that this has already been implemented, let me clarify what I (and many others) are requesting and it is definitely not the currently implemented grouping feature.

A named group, as I define it, would be a persistent group of speakers with a unique name that could be selected as you would an individual speaker.  In its most basic implementation this could be used as the target of an alarm.  How silly is it that the only way I can have an alarm play to multiple speakers is to go in every evening and create a group and then hope that no one in the household disturbs it?  As it is, if I want NPR to play automatically in the morning in the kitchen and bedroom I have to set up multiple alarms and put up with unsynced audio.

Beyond this simple enhancement though, I think of the feature as a sort of audio “scene” where you would have the option to also save volume settings so that, for instance, you could create a “dinner party” scene that groups living room, dining room or whatever and at the same time sets appropriate volume levels.

None of this is that complex to implement nor does it have to complicate the interface much.  What about it Sonos?

Whilst awaiting the Sonos Staff to perhaps acknowledge your feature request, if you happen to use Apple iOS Sonos controller devices, much of what you are requesting is available using an App called ‘Soro’ - it’s an iOS shortcuts ‘plugin’ (app) that can (amongst many other things) be scheduled to group Sonos rooms and set room volumes prior to an alarm activation etc. I’m not affiliated to the App but do use it myself. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but for a large part, it has a drag’n’drop interface to perform a huge variety of tasks with any Sonos setup.

It’s not free either, but perhaps do some further research yourself and see if it is able to meet all the requirements you are looking for. There are other posts in the community that mention the 3rd party app too and some of it’s other features. Here is some further reading…
