What are people using for USB C charger for Sonos Move?

Thank you.  That certainly explains the results with the second, smaller charger.  However why does the first charger pictured not work? It would appear to meet the specification.  Or am I missing something?  Thank you.

These are the Move chargers power output requirements:

  • USB-C charger for the Move needs output levels: 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/2.25A. 
  • The power adapter must be USB PD (Power Delivery). For 45W operation the PD source must put out either 20V/2.25A (or higher current) or 15V/3A (or higher current).
  • For 36W operation the PD source must put out 12V/3A or 15V/2.4A and charging speed is reduced if listening to audio at the same time.
  • Anything less than 36W will not power or charge Move.

Looking at your second photo it looks like your charger is 20W

For what it’s worth, I received a Move yesterday and am very pleased with it.  However, I have not been able to charge it using the USB-C charger supplied with my MacBook Pro, which purports to be a USB PD device.  I tried the USB-C charger for a new iPad, which also includes USB PD in its specifications, again, with no success.  Can anyone at Sonos provide some explanation or clarification, please?  Thank you.

FYI, I finally called SONOs today and turns out the charging port is not working on my move. Getting it replaced. I did test the 4 chargers I’ve bought (from recommendations on this site) on a friend’s move and they all work so it was my move the whole time.

Finally, it works! Someone earlier recommend a number of power solutions (thank you for sharing), and the one that I can confirm is the Samsung Samsung 45W USB-C Super Fast Charging Wall Charger - White (US Version with Warranty) (EP-TA845XWEGUS). Reasonably priced today at Amazon for $39.64 and that includes the cable. If I were you, Sonos, I’d buy these up and stick your label on them instead of making your community go through such trial and error to find a solution that simply works.

I’ve tried several chargers that are said to work, including above and no luck. Wondering if there might be a firmware update needed?

It charged my Sonos Move speaker from 50% to 100% in a little over an hour. Absolutely perfect!

The Sonos Move suffers from a fatal flaw (literally) -- the charger base is permanently wired to the charger, which means the connector will bend and eventually, inevitably, fail. Boo, Sonos! This charger fixes that problem, and is smaller and easier to travel with than the Sonos charger base. It's a travel charger for now, but when (not "if") the Sonos base fails, this will be my 24/7 home charger.

Minor quibble: it really needs a second, standard USB port (or even two). If it had that port, I could probably pack one less charger when I travel. Oh well.

I recently bought the Sonos Move and wanted a USB charger for it. After doing a bit of research I bought this charger from a company called 'UGreen' - GaN X 65W and it has 2 PD ports on it. It works perfectly with the speaker. I'd suggest any one who is still looking out for one to go ahead with this one.

I was able to charge my Move with the unit below (Amazon US).  It charged quickly without issue.  The wire that comes with seems to work well.  I tried to use one of the E-Marker-Chip wires and didn’t get anything to work.  The wire in the box works well for me.

I’m wondering how much time you’ve given these charger to work? I’m not sure (and I mean that literally) that Sonos knows/cares what kind of charger is connected, as long as it matches the minimum input voltage and amperage. It might be slower than their own charger, but I’d think electricity is electricity.

Seriously? Let me explain that I tried each and every one of these devices here in this link - and not a single one charges the sonos AT ALL. So i’m afraid your “electricity is electricity” is a little too simplistic here. Clearly Sonos have decided that only “special” electricity is enough - which is exactly the opposite of the point of Power Delivery USB-C charging specs! 

 

I bought the AUKEY Focus 60W PD 3.0 Charger on Amazon for $20. Charges my Move pretty fast. No problems.

I’ve just tested my UK 61W Apple USB-C charger and it works fine charging my Move.  My charger model number is A1718.

I’m having no luck with a 61W MacBook charger. Image attached. I tried the unplugging on both ends suggestion several times.
 

Also, just a basic electrical question, but why doesn’t a smaller charger still work but just charge the Move more slowly? With other devices, say I charge an iPad with an iPhone charger, or a MacBook Pro with an Air charger, it still charges, just more slowly. Trickle charging. Just curious why that doesn’t work for this device.

Sonos forgot to tell Move users about charging without the base!!!: The charger must provide 45 watts through the USB-C… otherwise it will not charge.  This fact is found NOWHERE in Sonos’ instructions, and barely findable in troubleshooting.  I ordered a Samsung 45 watt USB-C charger from Amazon; it charges now.

I second this Sonos needs to sell a type c power brick/cord combo for the move. Also an alterative base that can be plugged in with USB type c. Just to stream line things

Below are components I use to charge my Move.  1 and 2 via electrical outlet. 2 and 3 outdoors for power boost before the battery drains.

I'm thinking of buying the Move and already have a Ravpower Powerbank capable of 60watt USB PD - it sounds like it will likely not charge the Move?

Other Bluetooth speakers tend to output extra power (more volume) when connected to mains power - does the Move do this or does it deliver max power on battery (albeit draining the battery quickly)?

Another update about my chargers. After a while I seems to be able to get into chat with Sonos service. Based on the CallID I got from the local reseller, I explained my issues and everything I already tried. They finally gave me some ‘off the record advise’: “Unfortunately i'm not allowed to give you advise about any non-sonos products as a Sonos representative. From a college I understood that he bought a ‘EWENT EW3980’ charger which works with the Sonos move. Purchasing is at you own risk”. 

In the end I did not order the Ewent charges as I found out that the charger of the Lenovo laptop works as well.

Besides that, I ordered the Nexdock (it's like a screen with keyboard for you phone). This Nexdock is charged by a 45W PD charger. It's from some chinese brand. This charger works also for charging the Sonos, charging my phone, charging my headset and of course the Nexdock. :ok_hand_tone1:

 

(But I still a bit fustrated that you buy a 400$ speaker. Which do not come with a ‘on the road’ charger, and they do not want to tell you what will work…. )
