I love Sonos for the music but now with the major disappointment and anti climatic June 6th event with the only introduction being the Sonos beam plus I hoping that they would finally change the outdated playbar for codecs plus DD Atmos, I am seriously now considering that Sonos really do not care for its customers
Sonos fired a few people a few months ago and maybe sonos can no longer compete. The Sonos Home Theater is disappointing to say the least. I been waiting patiently for 2 years for Sonos to get their act together and I have come to the realization that they are not progressive enough and have completely ignored customers crying out to update the playbar . I will be selling my playbar, Sub and play 5 as a result of this. I may keep my 4*play 1s for 2 of my bedrooms but I will look at other companies for my home theater

Must be an updated Playbar.
Based on what has surfaced, it seems they will be opting for HDMI rather than optics and the image in the invitation hints at some universal remote capabilities.
My guess/hopes are
HDMI-CEC support which will solve the issue of many new TV-remotes not supporting the IR-signal required by the current Playbar for remote-support.
Support for newer standards not supported by the current optical cable; DTS, Dolby Digital Plus and potentially Dolby Atmos
HDMI in and out allowing for control of set-tops, the new Apple TV etc. via the new Playbar's HDMI-CEC
Voice-commands (Alexa and Google when ready) not only for music but also basic control of the TV via HDMI-CEC and other devices, e.g turning the TV on/off, pause and play.

Yea, They will def need to do HDMI IN-Out. Especially with people who have multiple devices.

I would think they will have to talk airplay2 and google home as well.

The Sonos beam looks smaller than the Playbar
So far the only thing worth mentioning is the Beam. Everything else Beta users know about.
The new Sonos Beam is a $399 soundbar that works over HDMI to provide sound for TVs and uses Alexa to become a smart speaker than can take on the Echo and the HomePod. Can the hybrid Sonos Beam convince consumers to upgrade?
