Reauthorizing Apple Music glitch - simple solution! (** may not work for everyone but worth a try **)

After accidentally logging out of Apple Music, I ran into the recurrent loop of Sonos trying to reauthorize Apple Music without ever completing the task. The following was the maddening cycle which happened on my old iPad 2:

  1. Sonos popup appears asking to Reauthorize Apple Music Account - only option is to click button that says “Reauthorize Account.”
  2. After clicking Reauthorize Account, iTunes app appears and it thinks for a long time and then finally a popup window appears saying: “The apple ID ________________ will be used for Apple Music on Sonos.” This popup window has only one option which is a “Continue” button.
  3. After pressing the Continue button, nothing happens for a while. Then Sonos app re-appears with the original popup asking you to reauthorize Apple Music.
  4. Go back to Step 1.

After trying all different options including logging in and out of Sonos and Apple Music, I found one simple solution. After you Reauthorize once, enter your iTunes password, and then see the Reauthorize Apple Music Account window again, just CLICK CANCEL. That will kick Sonos out of the loop and a few windows will pop up and eventually you will see a “Setup Complete” popup. Click Done to close that popup and Sonos is good to go!

Hopefully this saves some poor soul from wasting valuable time like I did on this ridiculously annoying Sonos software glitch.

I am having the same issue and am unable to reauthorize Apple Music which is the primary service I use along with Pandora. Please suggest a fix so my speakers are not useless. The above hack did not work for me. Thanks,

Hi @Rico 1, Thank you for reaching out and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear that you’re having the same issue with your Apple Music subscription. Suppose you’ve tried to do those troubleshooting steps above. I’ll be asking you some more questions to check on this issue.

  • When did the issue start happening?
  • Have you tried to do it on another device controller where you have the Sonos App If that will work?
  • What is the error message that you are getting when trying to reauthorize the account?
  • Have you tried to totally remove and readd your Apple Music account on Sonos and check if it will work?

Let us know what you have in mind with the advice above.

We're here to answer any further questions you have.

I guess in the past week or so I noticed it. It is happening on both my iPad and iPhone. I tried to logout of Sonos as well as delete and re-add Apple Music. When I try to re-add Apple Music I go to Apple Music, enter my password. I get the message that is has been added to Sonos and when I press the continue button I get the message: “We’ve run into a problem. Try again.”

Same problem here. S1 client. I’ve tried the above, as well as removing Apple music from services and force quitting the app.

I am on iOS beta 14.2, though. The error I sometime get is “please upgrade to the latest version of Apple Music”, so either there’s a bad version check in the code or something has changed on Apple music’s side.

Hi @Rico 1  and @jkmcf, thanks for reaching out and the update on this issue. Sorry to hear about what’s happening. I want to ask if your controllers are on Beta versions of IOS? Because this may affect as well. Or is it only happening on Apple Music? How about on other Music Services?

Let me know your thoughts with the advice above.

Hi Simon, yes I believe I am on the latest iOS beta and that’s my guess as to what the problem is. My other services are working with Sonos. When I try to add Apple Music I either get the error I mentioned above or the “please upgrade...” message that jkmcf is getting.

Hi @Rico 1, thanks for the update. About this issue. It’s possible that it is on the Apple Music side that they need to release updates since most users experiencing the issue are on the Beta version. We’ll wait for any updates regarding this issue. Also, other services are working on the Sonos App.

Let me know your thoughts on the advice above.

I downloaded the latest iOS beta 14.2 and the problem is now solved- was able re-add Apple Music.  Thanks!

Hi @Rico 1, thanks for the update. I’m glad that it worked after downloading the latest update and by removing and readding your Apple Music account.

This problem has plagued me for a long time, and I just fixed it. Here’s what I did: Went into the Sonos App > Manage > Service Settings. I saw a window with all kinds of Apple Music accounts - maybe 20 of them! I deleted them all. Then I clicked + , selected Apple Music, and a new account was added with my name. Now everything works - even ‘private’ playlists in my library that never worked before. Hope it keeps working and hope it works for you!
