Sonos Competitor for 5.1 Setup?

I currently have a Sonos 5.1 setup and love it...but I’m running into Lip Sync Issues with a few connections. I also have a PlayBar as the main unit feeding everything else, so there’s no AirPlay 2 compatibility.

Are there any good Sonos competitors from a “wireless setup” perspective that rivals the Sonos? Sonos obviously fails with the top output being Dolby Digital 5.1, so I’m looking to see what else may be available for Atmos and DTS:X.

Is there a way to achieve this without a receiver? Or is it best to use a receiver?

And input or feedback would be appreciated as I’m seriously considering upgrading my Sonos system.

You can get ATMOS with Arc and there is Bluesound and Denon but personally I would just go with an AV amp which will support a whole bunch of codecs. Whilst the speakers won’t be wireless a thin speaker cable is easier to hide and bury in walls compared to a mains lead.

The Sonos Arc with Sub and two One SLs (or Play:1s) is a great option. It is a 5.1.2 setup that supports Dolby TrueHD/Atmos, but not DTS or DTS:X. But it does support multichannel LPCM so you can set your Blu-ray player to convert DTS to PCM to get multichannel audio from DTS-encoded discs. It lacks any HDMI ports to connect external devices directly to the soundbar, so a TV equipped with HDMI eARC is a must if you plan on playing Blu-rays.

The Samsung HW-Q950A seems to be getting some great reviews and is comparable to the Sonos Arc in sound. It is a 11.1.4 soundbar that supports all the popular audio formats including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It also includes two HDMI ports and an optical port to connect external media devices. AirPlay 2 is also supported as it is with the Arc.
