New Sonos owner Question regarding connection

While setting up my new Beam - 1st product purchase for me - the set up said that newer Beams would connect to 5G, but this one only connects to 2.4. I’m wondering if I should take this one back and get the implied “new product”.  I don’t want to start a new system with old hardware where there is already an upgraded version out.

That’s what I thought, but was confused by Sonos own set up comments.

If you mean 2.4GHz WiFi, the Beam can only connect to that, not to 5GHz. The Beam’s 5GHz radio is used to connect to its own satellites (surrounds and/or Sub).

Products that support 802.11a/b/g/n

If your wireless router is broadcasting 802.11a/n, these products can connect to the 5GHz WiFi network:

  • One (Gen 2)
  • One SL
  • Port
  • Five
  • Sub (Gen 3)
  • Move
