I’ve been converting my house to a Sonos house for the last couple years. So far:

4x Sonos amp

1x ARC

1x sub

2x era 300s

3x Play 1

1x Beam

Just wanted to take a moment to voice that they new terms of service, that remove data privacy guarantees, are a complete deal breaker for me— I will never purchase another Sonos product while they are in place.

Changing the deal to take advantage of the customer after they are trapped. You can either agree to the new terms, where they are now able to make you the product, or you give up being able to use the speakers that you own.

I regret all of my Sonos purchases. I thought they were better than this.

I wouldn’t bother.  Anybody who compares changing the words in a privacy statement with a crime which gets you life in prison isn’t here for a rational discussion.  Just another stupid post playing the “Oooooh watch me be more shocking than the last guy!!!” game.

Same for me. I wanted to buy 2 surround speakers. But since I'm still on the 16.1 app and firmware, I'll probably get issues when pairing new speakers. And I will not update to the new app. Period.

So until they fix the crapshow of an app I will not buy anything from them. And with the new policy (although I'm in the Netherlands) I will block all their traffic with my pihole and dns resolver.

At this point I’d like to deny them internet access, but the garbage new app took away playing local content— so not even an option anymore.

It’s shocking how much I liked Sonos until last month, and how much I regret ever buying anything they made this month.

In the U.K / Europe the wording hasn’t changed but in the US it has.  I suspect Europe has stronger consumer rights that would likely prevent the sale of user details without an opt-in.

This is an other data point to the hidden agenda of Sonos - make everything move through their cloud so they can sell and market user data. Just look at who they have in their management. To me that clearly indicates where Sonos intends to go.

I did block my Sonos boxes from connecting to the internet and only use Airplay2. Have been using Airplay2 anyway most of the time since the app lost it`s ability to control volume levels via my iPhone buttons. That locks me out of some speaker functions. But hey, those boxes are moving to ebay anyway. There are less complicated Airplay2 speakers on the market that do not snoop, have decent release notes, do not rely on a vendor cloud and most of all, deserve my trust.

Just as a note, there is this thread about the changes to Sonos’ privacy policies.
