In the new 2024 Sonos App :

Where are the alarms settings?

Where is the Last.fm service?

Where is the Android widget?

This is a real nightmare. I hope Sonos will fix all that asap because what they did releasing this not finished app is scandalous.

I am like almost every comment on here. I have 5 Sonos speakers and after the so called upgrade I can’t even play music on my Play 5. What is the point in having Sonos speakers when you can play from my library or stream from Apple Music. It’s so annoying!
Sonos - get a grip and get this sorted. This is almost like theft/fraud and it seems that Sonos have no intention of doing anything to rectify these issues.

Apart from this you mean?

So very disappointed with the new app, it’s like sonos have forgotten that they produce speakers and therefore the app needs to focus on speaker functionality not to look like Spotify. Can no longer keep grouped speakers grouped, have to reset every time we turn the tv on. The sound on the arc doesn’t automatically work, as we now have to turn the speakers up before adding the group. Something that wasn’t an issue now is, and down to the new app.

honestly this app is now so painful, I’m now going to have to look for a replacement system…and I really wanted an era 300, but am put off by losing so much functionality. Please sort this sonos, your products are far too expensive to have such poor functionality in the app.

Let's see what they come up with this time.

Turns out it will be Monday 22nd now, not even this week!

Edited: “The biggest changes are in support for local music libraries. For example, the 'settings and configuration' of such libraries are now available via the mobile app. It is now also possible to search local music libraries in the app. mIt’s translated from Dutch - I think it means ‘will be available” rather than “now”]

“The July 22 update also includes improvements to line-in autoplay, compression settings, settings accessibility, firmware update notifications and volume settings. In addition, the Sonos Amp and Port can now be configured in mono and stereo and the 'Forgot System' option has been added to the Android app.

“Some other functions that are currently missing from the new Sonos app will follow in August. For example, in early August, users will be able to downgrade their devices from S2 to S1 again and keep offline devices. At the end of August it will be possible to adjust playlists in the Sonos app and there will be an editing function for queues.”

Great. So no mention of the local library fixes then.

Yes, sorry, my selection of the text didn’t copy that bit. I’ll amend the above accordingly.

Got it, thanks. 👍

End of August for queue editing. The mind boggles at the thought process that led them to believe it would be OK to release the app without it.

Why this mobile application can not be ditched, is as a mystery as JFK assassination.

We invested a f****** Capital on your Sonos products.

First, you discover 2 years ago.... Oooooops, old Sonos 5 will not work with the new update. So What have I spent my money for??

And now this software update. The latest update is simply s*** brain farted from an incompetent team of software engineers without any internal check from any dummy providing user experience.

The fact that after two month of complains from customers and software marks all went down to 1 star - we would give a f****** Zero, for what your products are worth with the new software, but it is not f****** possible -  is letting us wondering if all of our Sonos product should go in a dump and we should just f****** listen to music from a 50 bucks chinese mp3 player

F****** Roll Back the software!

The YouTube Music service home screen lists the type of music(Playlist, Album, Song, Other) and the Name of the Item(Album, Song) but does not list the artist for that item. The only way to find out is to click through on the item and to find out that information. This makes checking out new music very tedious.

I am extremely disappointed with this app update. The general UI is not intuitive.

We have experienced constant connectivity issues that we never had before. We are really disappointed that, like many others, we have invested thousands of dollars in the speakers that barely work anymore.

It is embarrassing when we have large gatherings and the music is constantly cutting out.  It always sparks up a conversation with anyone that is familiar with sonos products. Everyone begins talking about how much they hate the new app. Others that are not familiar with the product take interest because they want to make sure they do not purchase these products. I am really concerned for the future of Sonos after the current update.

But will the new version (22 July) even work? I had an automatic upgrade to the July 3 version and now the app just crashes on startup, I tested on multiple devices (Pixel, Samsung) running Android 14 and all crash which didn’t occur with the previous version. Uninstall and re-install and the same outcome.  Aren’t these releases even tested?

If you want to prevent the app update from loading on your devices:

Turn off automatic updates

iOS:

Android:

(Scroll a bit further to next section titled "Stop Automatic Updates for Specific Apps")

Too bad… SONOS will force you to updat now. Or the entire system won’t function.

When are you going to fix you app so I can start listening to my music again?

I have used Sonos for years. I probably own 50 sonos speakers across two homes but lately I am so frustrated with your terrible app that I am almost ready to give it all up. As Forbes magazine stated:

Here are four lessons to help Sonos avoid such a fate:

  1. Don’t rush the deployment of a software upgrade. Conduct rigorous testing and elicit feedback from a large diversity of stakeholders.
  2. Quickly acknowledge issues to the marketplace. Letting the community fester in the silence of the provider ensures that the situation will deteriorate.
  3. Provide the choice to return to the previous version of the software. There are times when a one-way option is the only option, but more often than not, a way to return to the original is good business. This option can be temporary as issues with the upgrade are resolved. Eventually older versions can be phased out.
  4. Never deliver an upgrade that is missing essential functions with the promise they may return in the future. While it’s okay to add new features in the future, it’s never okay to eliminate existing features people rely on and may have been the basis for their purchase in the first place.

The user experience is everything. It can be costly to get it wrong.

You have clearly got this totally wrong. Thank you for letting me vent.

The app was working as normal by recent standards until half an hour ago. Now I can't open it. It just shuts down straight away. This is on multiple phones.

Android phones @Parsnip62? If yes, your Sonos devices likely just updated to the v16.3 firmware …

The app is working on iPhones.

Also I can see local library album art on the iPhone but compilation albums are an absolute state.

This is all such a massive c*** up.

Madness

Hi @Parsnip62, you can check the firmware version from one of your functioning iOS apps …

  • On the home screen, tap the ggear icon]
  • Next to Create a System, tap Manage
  • Under Manage, tap About Your System
  • Scroll down to Sonos System Info and look for Version:
  • If you see 16.3 (build 80.1.55014) and your Android app is crashing, umm, see post above?
