I have a Youtube Music premium account that is distinct from the Google account I use for my Android phone. I can see Youtube Music content (playlists, etc) when adding it as a service to the Sonos S1 app using my Google account but not when using the Youtube Music account (“No selections available”). As far as I know, neither account is a brand account.

I don’t see the logic behind this and would be very grateful for suggestions how to solve this issue.

I don’t use YTM Premium, but I do notice that if you goto the YTM App settings (profile icon top right) there is an option to add other Google Accounts to the service (it’s under the switch accounts option) - perhaps try that and add your other Google account and see if it resolves your issue.
