What setup for open-plan living space

Hi, does it make sense to have 2 in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen and 2 fives on the sideboard in the living area? I can’t put 2 speakers in the ceiling above the dining room table in the grey box, but I could put in just one on the garden side of the ceiling. 

Or would two Sonos 1’s on stands high up in the kitchen be better than ceiling speakers?

A pair of ceiling speakers will work great for a kitchen, and you can never go wrong with a pair of Fives for music.

thanks - I just wasn't sure if they would fill the space properly

That gives you nice flexibility to manage volume and even music choice separately.
