Using Gen 1 Connect with Gen 2 Play1 speakers

This has probably been asked many times before but I'm struggling to find an answer to my specific question.

 

I currently own 2 x Play2 speakers using S2 software (I assume this means I have Gen 2 speakers. I was intending on purchasing a Sonos Connect so that I can connect my turntable to my speakers.

 

If I purchase a used Connect Gen 1 will it work on my Gen 2 speakers?

If you use the Sonos S1 app, you will be able to use the Connect (Gen 1) with your Play:1s. But if you use the S2 app, only the Play:1s are compatible. You should try to find a used Connect (Gen 2) instead.

Ah I see, that makes sense. I didn't realise there were two versions of the app.
