I’m hoping to get the following setup:

  • ARC home theater set up with two wireless surrounds and sub in FR
  • In-ceiling speakers with amp in Kitchen
  • In-ceiling speakers with amp in DR

We’re not hard-core audiophiles but would like music and tv to sound good. We also would like flexibility so, for example, sometimes listening to the t.v. In FR and kitchen but sometimes having t.v. on in FR while music streaming in the kitchen. DR may be streaming something else?

So, I guess my question is (and apologies if it’s been answered and/or is naive) whether this is the right setup (or *a* right setup) for this? Is there something I should be concerned about in this configuration?

Many thanks for any help.

FR is Family Room? DR is Dining Room?

This seems like it will work. Note that when playing music from a stream, all speakers when grouped will be in sync. However, when playing the TV input, any Sonos ‘rooms’ (the DR and/or the Kitchen) will be delayed by around 75ms. If you can’t hear the two rooms at the same time, this shouldn’t be an issue, I did this quite a bit in a previous home. There’s more of a challenge if it’s ‘open’ space, but shouldn’t be a big issue.

Thanks so much for this.

Didn’t realize about the delay. This may matter as it is a somewhat open space. Do you think this would also be the case for a wireless speaker in the kitchen, as opposed to the wired in-ceiling speakers?

Thanks again.

The results are the same using a Move2 or Roam2 which are portable speakers.

Hint:

  • For in ceiling speakers powered by Sonos Amp you may want an “in-wall” attenuator installed for volume control vs going into the Sonos app or going to the Amp itself. You may want to consult a professional installer.
