Hi Peeps,

I have a port with powered b&o speakers. I want to add a turntable and assume I won’t need a pre-amp or amp as the speakers are powered.

Is this correct? Or am I a silly newbie who doesn’t know what I’m talking about?

I'm not here to judge you, but you will need a pre amp to connect your turntable to the Port, if the turntable has no pre amp built in. The standard power output of a turntable is too low for the Port to function.

To quote from the page linked below: A nominal output level from a phono cartridge is 1 mV (0.001 V). The Aux input on your stereo system requires a signal level of 100 mV (0.1V). To meet the required level, a typical phono preamp will boost your signal by 40 – 50 dB.

Take a look here for more explanation: https://www.yoursoundmatters.com/why-do-i-need-a-phono-preamp-for-my-turntable/

You won't need an amp, but unless the TT is one that has a built in preamp you will need one between it and the Port.
