The Beam is limited on how well it can play low frequency audio. So adding a Sub Mini will make a big difference.

Without the Sub Mini, the Beam has to play the low, mid, and high frequency audio. When you add a Sub Mini, it will take over the low frequency audio and allow the Beam to focus on playing the mid and high frequencies. This will result in much deeper bass and better audio for both movies and music from your home theater setup.

Totally agree, I have a Beam 1 with 2 x Era 100s and a Sub Mini and the sound is great (in my opinion).
