Hi. Getting an extension built and currently trying to plan all wiring etc so we don't need to retro fit anything. I want to set up a Sonos surround system in the living room section of the new living/dining/kitchen space. I have had a play3 for many years and plan to put this in the kitchen where it will only be used for music. For the living room I was thinking to get a beam, mini sub and 2x era 100 to put on the wall behind the sofa. The total room size is 9000mm x 7700mm. The living room section is 4800mm TV to wall where era100s would go, 4300mm wide. Sofa will sit around 1500 in front of the eras, 2500 back from the TV&beam. Will this work? Is there a better option? I was considering amp and ceiling speakers instead of eras but much more expensive and means I have an amp to find a home for. Anh and all opinions appreciated!
Honestly, I’d ask what your expectations are for TV/movie listening and also music. The Sonos surround setup is quite rigid and doesn’t lend itself to reconfiguring easily for listening to just music.
If you can wire, I would seriously consider a non-Sonos AV setup with discrete front speakers. Things like Atmos will be much better, and the system in general will be more flexible. You can add Sonos into it using a Port for streaming.
Thanks for the reply! I just wanted something a bit better than a soundbar on its own for the TV. For music I was just keeping the Sonos 3 in the kitchen/dining area. Would probably wall mount it somewhere so it is out of the way. It is easy for voice control streaming via Alexa. I will look into a different system for the TV.
I’m using an Arc-Sub 3-Era 300 pair. Yes the Arc soundbar compromises the SQ a bit for stereo music. I wish a setup of 5 Era 300 speakers was possible. Yet, when the speakers are setup properly, TruePlay is executed, and Surround Audio / Music Playback is set to Full the stereo music sounds pretty good. If you subscribe to either Apple Music or Amazon Music Unlimited you will have access to Dolby Atmos music. This is where the described setup shines. If you’re into classical music it’s definitely worth the upgrade to that system.
