terrible sound with Play 1 speakers, Sonos Port and Denon DP-300F turntable

I bought a Sonos Port specifically to go with a new Denon DP-300F turntable so I could play vinyl through my Play 1 speakers.  I’m taking advantage of the turntable’s built in pre-amp.  The sound is total garbage; tinny, weak and staticky.  I’ve changed the pre-amp setting on the turntable just to be sure I have it in the right position.  The other setting produces no sound at all through the Sonos system.  The speakers sound great playing music streaming services.  It is just the Port with the turntable that sounds terrible.  Any suggestions to improve this?

Under the Port’s Line-In settings in the Sonos app, be sure to adjust the Source Level. Also, under Settings > System, change Audio Compression to Uncompressed.

Check the equalizer switch inside of the turntable too:

Might also be worth the $20 to $30 for an external pre-amp, if the internal one is not pleasing to you.
