I have an at home Sonos system with a cocktail of 13 Sonos devices.  All of which cut in and out intermittently.  Even though I have gone through various steps of troubleshooting as outlined on Sonos’ support website and phone support, I continue to have regular intermittent cutouts.  I noticed that Sonos doesn’t support 802.11r which I believe could help these devices when there is interference detected on the wireless channel it locks onto when powered up.  When will these devices start supporting Fast Roaming and can this enhancement be pushed through a firmware update or will all of my Sonos devices become obsolete?

Kindly,

I suspect it would require a new series of antennas, and associated chips to process that signal. I wouldn’t be looking for any existing Sonos devices to already have that hardware in them that could be updated by a simple firmware update…I expect much of that was too expensive or didn’t exist when the devices were not only designed, but manufactured.

In fact, I wouldn’t hold my breath until that standard becomes more widely accepted before Sonos supports it.
