After 2 hrs on phone with cust serv, SONOS 5 was finally back to working, 4 mos after app update. Due to hurricanes, had some power outage and no time to listen to music. For reasons that don’t matter, I have 2 wifi connections, “A” and “B”. B is what everything is connected to but occasionally, devices will jump to A. Before trying to play SONOS today, I ensured phone app, laptop (music library) were both on B. But app couldn’t find my device. I tried unplugging and replugging as per directions. When I change phone app to wifi A, the device is discoverable but I can’t access laptop/music library. I also cannot force the app to point to WiFi B. There must be some way to do that but the only option it gives me is to delete WiFi B. Not what I want. How do I get the Sonos 5 to point at / prefer wifi B?

Use different SSIDs and only put the one you want into Sonos.

Your controller will also need to connect to the same SSID.

Thank you but I wouldn’t know where to find an SSID, unfortunately and the issue is I cannot put anything into the Sonos. I tried deleting wifi A from the Sonos, using the app, which should force it to use wifi B, but it didn’t work. This wasn’t a problem until the app update. I could variously control the Sonos 5 from my laptop or from the app on my phone. No idea what to do now except change all devices, laptop (music library), phone (app) to wifi A, if I want to use Sonos!  If you have time, I would love to know how I change an SSID and ‘put it into Sonos.’ The tragic part is I am fulltime caregiving for someone with dementia and the music was for him even more than for me!

I just looked up SSID and it sounds like I already tried to do what you suggest (see my first reply). Sigh….

Why do you have two different WiFi’s?

Both WiFi’s must be on the same subnet. I have two WiFi’s and SONOS can make its own choice. If one WiFi goes down for maintenance, the players will switch to the other without a fuss.

Hi, I wasn’t going to go into it but my service provider’s ‘gateway’ (modem/router) is weak, so I have a Google mesh system. It is wired into the ISP’s gateway and them transmits wifi signals to all devices. As I mentioned, I had no issues with the set-up before the app update and a month or so ago, after a long time on the phone with Sonos customer service, it was working fine. I don’t know what has happened. I just can’t get Sonos/Laptop/Phone app on the mesh wifi (which, again, is what my devides primarily use. I can switch).

You need to put your ISPs gateway into bridge mode. Search the model number and “bridge mode” and you should be able to find information.

Regarding SSIDs, that just means the wifi network name. If you have two wifi networks with the same name and password then the devices might get confused, but there’s no way this issue would be happening if you had two separate network names with different passwords. That’s all besides the point though, since you shouldn’t have two networks.

This isn’t the app’s fault. You’ve just set up your network incorrectly. It’s like blaming your car because it doesn’t run on vegetable oil.

Basic requirement for Sonos to work is everything must be on one network. Essential data will not pass to a second network.

Put all Sonos, all controllers and if used your music library on one network before trying anything else.

My ISP gateway and Google Mesh do NOT have the same name or password. What I neglected to mention but may be relevant, is that the SONOS tech support person created a new user on my computer, which is Sonos itself. Again, everything worked fine before May, with the Gateway and the Mesh. I suppose I can manually point all the devices to the wifi that Sonos is pointing to but it makes no sense to me that there is no way to point SONOS 5 to the wifi signal I want it to use. Thank  you for trying to help.

Simply use the network settings in the controller to point your Sonos to the network you want ALL your Sonos to use.

If you want to control them your controller will have to be on the same one.
