I have owned multiple Sonos products for the past few years in different rooms solely for music - speakers + subs. Always loved the great sound and convenience of the music I want wherever in the house I am. Particularly liked kicking back with the wife and having chilled Saturday night listening to favourite tunes.
However the new app has ruined everything. Try to listen and it plays in random rooms not the one I’m in despite careful selection of where I am. When a song does play I have no volume control, can’t stop, pause or play new songs. It’s uncontrollable which is contrary to everything this system should deliver. I’ve spent £000’s on this and not only is it now rubbish and not fit for purpose has negatively impacted my quality of life. Weekend nights with music are now frustrating fights with a system I genuinely can’t control. I want my money back. A letter from the CEO might be touchy feely but I want this sorted now. I paid for something I expected to work.
Join the club. They somehow imagined themselves to be in the “App” business, enamored by the excitement of updating the App in some way that we’d all be thrilled with. All the while they forgot they were in the Music player business. They didn’t realize that we don’t care about the app, we care about listening to Music.
So now they have an App they can’t get over (Hello Sonos - not that great even if it worked!). And we have an app we cannot use, and a system that no longer fulfils its primary purpose.
And they are not done - the last firmware screws up the Music Library listing and the latest App release still has issues and some new UI issues where items run together on the screen and cannot be selected. In the weeds is what they are.
If they get all this sorted out by the end of the year, I’ll be shocked and impressed. And if their revenues don’t gradually drag them down due to all the negative press, it will be a miracle for that putz of a CEO who led them down this self-destructive path.
