Hello,

Seeking advice from the experts here.

I recently moved the following to a new location and reset and set everything up as a new Sonos system.

  • 3x Play:1
  • 1x SonosOne
  • 1x Sonos Ray

Unfortunately, the move coincided with the issues Sonos started to have with the new app and this has left me mostly confused.  The problems:

  • The system tends to go offline from time to time.  One Sonos (Android) app, the entire system will disappear.
  • Sometimes, some speakers will go offline and not show up in the app.
  • Speakers sometimes don’t show up in Spotify
  • Speakers play a track for a few seconds and then skips to the next - can happen for a few songs before things settle down.

I suspected a weak network signal that might be causing it so I had my wireless router (issued by my local ISP) relocated to a “central location”.  This did not improve the situation.

Before the system was moved to this new location, it was part of my setup at home. As I mentioned above, I reset the speakers to factory default and then reconfigured them at the new location.  I don’t know if this helps but the speakers are placed at high level (about 20 - 30 centimetres below the ceiling).  Oddly, the speakers that tend to go offline more frequently are now closer to the router.

Any help / advice anyone can render would be most appreciated.  Been struggling so much with Sonos over the last few months that I am on the verge of giving up the entire setup.

Thank you.

First check the SNR Signal to Noise Ratio of your speakers.  A value of 45 or higher is preferred.

 Also who is your ISP?

I’d also be tempted to do a network refresh, by unplugging all Sonos devices from power, then rebooting this router, and waiting a couple of minutes before plugging back in the Sonos devices.

If one of your speakers is near the router, try connecting it to the router with a cable. Do not use one of the surrounds if two of the Play 1s are setup as surrounds. The Ray would be the best choice for this, but the One would also be a good choice if it is easier to connect.

If they all do not show up, try moving them closer to the wired speaker. You did not say if your new home is larger or smaller, or if it has different walls that can cause WIFI issues.
