I recently upgraded to BT Fibre 900 with a new EE Smart Hub router. However since that happened I cannot get my Sonos Arc registered on the Sonos App and therefore no connection to the Sub. The Arc is showing as a connected device on the 2.4 Ghz component; the router has both 2.4 and 5 Ghz connected devices. The Arc is basically only working as an HDMI connected speaker to my main TV. The Sonos support person connected to my EE router and viewed my configuration and said without WiFi 2 compatibilty to the router the Arc would not register. Is this correct/What are my options?

I read something about this and few days ago and the solution he had was to put the router into modem mode and buy a decent 3rd party router and use that instead.

His problem was with a beam gen 2 BUT he had the same issue with connecting.

Hope this helps!

Appreciative for this advice. I was not expecting or wanting to buy another router. Was expecting that my Sonos products would be compatible (somehow). It kind of defeats the purpose of having a new router from EE I think. I assume this means I am downgrading my overall wifi setup to get Sonos working?

I am wondering if the same issue would apply if I had the equivalent Bose products or its products better on compatibility as I am now thinking of moving to Bose if there is no simple solution.

This absolutely!

Don’t cheap out and use the free Router, buy one that works. If looking Synology make good home Routers.

Thanks Belly M, money is not an issue here so your advice sounds good. What model of router would you recommend? Would this definitely solve my issue so I can get my Sonos products working? Is it technically difficult to swap out the routers and ensure all devices connect?

I have a separate Sky TV router (installed by a Sky engineer) that is connected by ethernet to my EE router - I assume this would not be an issue regards your suggestion?

Sorry for the list of questions but I am not a strong techy, but willing to change my setup.

Thanks

Personally it s a simple thing to do (swapping Routers) but if not great with tech then probably best not to touch your Router especially as you also have Sky TV (and their router / extender / pucks). This thread could end up being a nightmare support post which as a user and no access to your network would make it tricky to diagnose.

For future reference, if swapping a Router the easiest thing to do is power off everything and make the new Routers  SSID and password the same as the old Router.

The EE Router is a rebadged BT device (BT are swapping to the EE brand for broadband) so you might get lucky with the Routers admin webpage and find a Mode setting for Wi-Fi, this needs to be Mode 2. If this works you might be able to switch modes back once connected.

still no luck… If your ARC is not screwed to the wall you could temporarily move it to be closer to your Router and use an Ethernet lead, this should allow you to register and then possibly use Wi-Fi.

Still struggling try Sonos support again, you might get another option with someone different.

Really appreciate this feedback and great suggestion.

I will try the temporary ethernet connection suggestion as the Arc is portable for me to attain registration. If when the ethernet cable is detached it does not work over wifi then I am happy to buy a better router and do the swapout. When the EE router. came a few weeks ago I swapped that with the older BT kit and it all seemed fine. The Sky router basically plugs into the ethernet port. (I will check changing the EE router this does not affect terms of my EE/BT contract).

I Googled on SSID and am thinking of renaming my current network name anyway through EE’s online app instructions. Is there a proven router you would recommend that would give the compatibility required for the Sonos Arc + Sub?

Appreciate your feedback.

I recommend Synology Routers for home use on an FTTP connection, FritzBox Routers on FTTC / FTTP. If using BT’s digital voice service you may be stuck with the BT/EE Router.

I have full fibre so that would be FTTP I believe. Will review tech specs of Synology routers tomorrow.

Have just done a livechat with Synology who seem to think their routers are full compatible with all Sonos products.

Thanks for your help.
