Hi. I have pair of Sonos SL One speakers which I previously paired with my Mac. I now want to use them elsewhere paired with music for streaming from my iPhone. I’ve factory re-set both of them but when trying to pair them with my phone on my home wifi, I can’t get past the stage where I have to input my wife code- this results in an error message saying the wifi can’t be found. I’ve updated the Sonos app on my phone, deleted it and re-installed it but can’t get the speakers to pair. Any help appreciated.

Wire the Sonos Ones temporarily to your router with an Ethernet cable, then set them up again using the controller.

Usually, a ‘reset’ of them is a bad thing, as it erases any previous information stored on them.

Sonos One speakers can only be paired to another Sonos One (as a stereo pair), so you having it paired with a Mac seems strange. Can you explain what you mean exactly?

Not that is any help to you, but factory resetting a Sonos speaker is a last resort measure, only to be done after contacting Sonos.

You could try to connect one of your speakers by cable to your router and then try to put in the WiFi credentials.

Hi folks, thanks for taking the time to reply. Both speakers were originally paired with my Mac where I have a large music collection and used them for listening to this. They were configured as a stereo pair, this option came up on the Sonos app when adding them.

I now want to use them in a different room for listening to streamed music or tracks stored on my iPhone. Bizarrely since posting here yesterday, I have managed to get one speaker to connect to my phone and although it works, the app tells me it’s not properly registered and won’t allow me to add the second speaker with that option greyed out.

I realise I’m probably making this issue sound more complicated and hope there’s easy solution to this.

Again , thank you for all the pointers so far.

Again, your use of the word “paired” does not make sense in the Sonos world. How did you play the music on you Mac to the speakers? Via Airplay? Or did you ad your music library to the Sonos system through the app?

What fault does the system give you when it says the speaker is not registered correctly? Did you follow the advice to temporarily cable connect your speaker?

Hi @Eddie2112

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of the issues you’ve had since resetting your speakers.

For the benefit of anyone else reading this, the factory reset was a mistake - you can have many controllers for each Sonos system, you do not need to reset anything to add one, and resetting Sonos often makes things more complicated. What’s done is done, however, and the issue now is that the two speakers consider themselves to be on different systems entirely.

Normally, I’d say that to resolve this, you just need to factory reset either speaker (but only one of them) and add it to the app after ensuring that the app is already connected to the other speaker.

However, as neither of your speakers are currently showing as being online, you may need to do more than this - I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
