I had a  play 5 1st gen and a beam 1st/2nd gen working off the app 1. Been bought a roam which has to work off app 2. Thought it would be simple to set up but no!!! Was told I would have to delete both off app 1, set up the roam on app 2 then go back an re set up the beam and 5 on app 1 as I want those paired together. Cannot do this. Any help appreciated

The Play:5 (Gen 1) is only compatible with the the S1 app so it cannot be used with the Roam on the S2 app. The Beam is compatible with either the S1 or S2 app.

Read more about which speakers are compatible with S2 here:

The Play:5 and Beam should remain on the S1 app and the Roam should be set up on the S2 app as a different system.

Yes I know all those things but when I tried to do the roam on app 2 it wouldn’t let me until I’d deleted all off app 1. Now app 1 won’t find the beam or the play 5

Follow these steps to set up a separate S1 system:

Hi @Mickgwilt71

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Looking at your system now, it looks like you were able to sort it all out (though the Roam is understandably offline, so I can’t be sure).

For anyone reading this, if you’re trying to set up a new system on either S1 or S2 with an existing system already existing on the other, it’s best to turn off all the other units while creating a new system. Once finished, turn them on again. This prevents the S1 app from seeing S2 devices and recommending the S2 app, and prevents the S2 app from seeing S1 systems and recommending the S1 app. This is only needed during the Setup a New System steps - after a system is created, the apps will only connect to the relevant system.
