My system is on 8.4 and walled from app updates. I have 3 CR100 controllers that amazingly have not exploded yet. One still has the original battery, 2 have been upgraded for a few bucks from ebay.
My main question is if I were to get an old Play:5 that someone upgraded to V11 something, is there any chance of downgrading the firmware to 8.4 to be compatible with my system?

So far my issues with being on 8.4 include:
- a Sonos One that lost Alexa, but cannot be re-registered without having a phone that has both Sonos 8.4 and the current version of Alexa on the same device, phone only. I preserved my old Android phone with Sonos 8.4 but it will not update Alexa to the latest, and my current phone is iPhone and research says I can’t sideload the Sonos app on iOS.
- I have other Alexa in my system but for some reason Alexa will not control *playing* on Sonos but Alexa will *stop playing* what I’m playing on Sonos. I can say “Alexa, ask Plex to play Playlist” and she will play on echo but I can’t add “on Sonos Kitchen” then it will be ignored. I can, however, say “Alexa, stop playing Music in Sonos Garden” and Alexa (echo) will turn off the Sonos Garden. This is ok because I still have CR100, but it would be nice to have both.
- SiriusXM seems to no longer be working on Sonos 8.4. It works fine on Alexa, though. It would be good if I could do “Alexa, play SiriusXM on Sonos” but no luck. Per research, SiriusXM has been split US/CAN and that likely needs an app update (not going to happen). I’d like to fix this if possible, but not a dealbreaker.
- Audacy (radio stations) seem to no longer working on Sonos, also still fine on Alexa. But I read on this forum that updated systems have this issue too, so likely not an issue of this Sonos software version. Still, I miss Acoustic Sunrise waking me up Sunday mornings.
But my CR100s are still going strong, so I’m not ready to get caught in the fiasco that is, what...Version 80? And clearly unimproved since 8.4 lol
