Hi All,

We have a SAMSUNG SMART TV FRAME and a SONOS PLAY 5.
We tried to connect the play 5 to the tv (more precisely to the box of the tv), but it is impossible.
We tried with :

  • a jack plug
  • hdmi audio return channel & DAC audio converter
  • Bluetooth
  • WIFI

Anything works. The worst is that we tried with a mini Bose and it took 30 s to connect.

Do you have a solution to help us ?

thanks

regards,

PG & Hana

Not a great one. The PLAY:5, or the newer Five series are not designed to be Connected to a TV. That’s usually reserved for the Ray, the Beam, or the Arc, all of which have digital inputs, varying from optical to HDMI-ARC, which don’t give you the 75 ms delay on the analog inputs in Sonos other devices, including the PLAY:5.

While you can’t remove the 75 ms delay, the line in on your PLAY:5 should be accepting a line level input,  as described in the FAQ. If your Samsung doesn’t have a line level output, it might be possible to use a variable output, such as a headphone jack, but to ensure the minimum level for the Sonos to be able to read, I’d set that volume at at least 50%, and then dial it in, using the Sonos settings in addition to the TV’s volume settings….then never touch one or the other ever again. Finding that sweet spot on dueling volume controls is really something you’d want to do as infrequently as possible.

Your TV box should have an optical out. Use a cheap DAC to send the signal to a 3.5mm plug for your Play:5’s Line-In.

Note however that (1) you must configure the TV to output stereo PCM only and (2) the audio through the Play:5 will be delayed by a minimum of 75ms.

So how did you connect the Bose?

So how did you connect the Bose?

Bluetooth perhaps, via a lousy codec and a ~200ms delay.
