Hi there.

I have a number of older Sonos speakers and only my Sonos Play 1 and Sonos Play 3 are compatible with S2. I also have a newer Sonos system, consisting of the Sonos Arc, and some surround gear. All wroks well independently, however igf I every try and “group” the Arc with the Play 1 or Play 3 it cuts the music out. I have the same issue if trying to group the TV side from thge Arc. Sometimes it works, but generally it cuts the sound on all speakers. I have checked everything is up to date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and a solution shared with the community.

It’s not clear if you have the PLAY:1 and the PLAY:3 running S1 or S2. You talk about both operating systems, and compatibility, but there’s no indication of what they are running.

If you’re running S2, and grouping the two ‘rooms’, it’s likely due to one of two potential issues.

The first is that they’re running different firmware ‘builds’. Check to make sure you’ve updated the system properly.

The second could be potential wifi interference , especially due to the fact that a TV input is a ‘heavier’ load on your WiFi, and uses more bandwidth, so is more easily susceptible to interference. I’d read that linked FAQ, and apply any potential fixes that may be applicable.

if neither of those suggestions help. I would call Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Note, however, there is no way of ‘grouping’ devices running S1, with devices running S2.
