Hey, folks.

I just bought two Era 100s and set them up out of the box. The issue I’m having is that when I use the physical volume slider on one of the devices, the volume will frequently jump to 0.

In other words, If I give it a good swipe, the volume will rise, suddenly jump to 0, and then continue rising to finish processing the swipe. For example, it might start at 17, go up to 39, suddenly jump to 0, and end on 6. It’s completely random when this happens; it’s not consistent in terms of volume or speed of swiping. If I keep swiping up, the volume gets up to anywhere between 10 and 60 before inevitably starting over from 0.

Max volume is off, and I’ve also tried rebooting devices, wifi, and app. This behavior doesn’t happen on my paired Era 100; if I do the same, it rises as expected until it blows my ears out at 100.

Any ideas on what the issue is?

Hi @sfxRain, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the volume controls of your Era 100s.

I’ve had a look around and there is an issue where volume control is delayed after starting playback, which could be causing the erratic levels. Do you notice this issue happening when you start playback or move onto another track in the queue?

Since you’ve already tried rebooting the speaker, the other workarounds for this issue are to set the volume before starting playback or to set the volume after 10-30 seconds of playback. Granted, this might not be the issue with your Era 100s, but it’s worth testing to see if you can replicate it.

I’d also recommend cleaning the volume groove on the Era 100 as the touch capacitive buttons can have issues if dirt has accumulated. Our cleaning guide recommends using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and dampening it with a mild soap solution.

It’s possible that the issue lies with the Era 100s themselves, so if the above doesn’t help, then please submit a diagnostics after the issue occurs and reach out to our support team for further troubleshooting.

I hope this helps!
