Hi… bought record player and Sonia move for daughters room. The device keeps connecting to another speaker built in device upstairs. Unless other device is turned off we can’t get record player to pair to device in daughters room next to Sonos move. Built in device upstairs has to have power turned off which requires a ladder and broom to reach power. Very annoying… any tips please

What record player? What is the device upstairs?

To use a record player with Sonos you need a Sonos speaker with a line-in port such as a Play 5 (Gen 2), Five, Connect:Amp, Sonos Amp, Era 300 or Era 100. You could also use a Connect or Port but those devices would still require an Amplifier. Even after you have the proper setup the Move is only capable of being Grouped with the main Sonos speaker connected to the record player.

So...how are you connecting the record player to Sonos? Also by “record player” do you mean a turntable or something else; such as a Bluetooth (BT) device?

If the device is BT it’s probably connecting to the first device (speaker) it sees or auto-connecting to the last device (speaker) it was paired to.

The record player is a Bluetooth turntable we bought at the same time … speaker turntable…

we understand it’s picking up last it paired to but trouble is it always reverts to upstairs speaker even after correct pairing to turntable

Often, Bluetooth devices will keep a ‘stack’ of approved signals to connect to, and will try to connect to each one in order, until it finds one that accepts connection.

You need to make the other ‘speaker’ or perhaps the turntable to ‘forget’  its ability to connect to the Bluetooth signal. Once it stops attempting to connect to the first item in the stack, it should then move on to the correct connection that you have set up.

Thanks for the verification about the record player. Fortunately, the Sonos Move is not at fault as it can't force a device to connect to it. Unfortunately, you’ll have to figure out a way to force the BT Record player to forget the upstairs device (speaker).

Usually that can be done if the Record Player has an accessible Admin Page that shows the devices it has connected to. From there you can choose “forget this device” referring to the speaker upstairs.

@Airgetlam types faster than me. So I’ll leave you in his capable hands. He got off easy on this one. 😂

Note: If Suzanne Bibby is your real name...for security reasons (in an open community) it’s not advisable to do so. If you want to use part of your real name I would suggest shortening one of them to just an initial.

Thanks everyone will try the above suggestions and hope for a successful outcome
