Connection Issues to Sonos Speakers from Mac via Airplay

I can see most of my (assorted) Sonos speakers in the Sound control panel of my Mac, which is running the latest OS (Sonoma 14.6.1). But when I try to select one of the Sonos speakers as the default sound output device, it flashes for a second and then reverts back to the previous default (either the Mac internal speakers or the desktop wired speakers (connected via mic port). Any suggestions?

Hi @dfmarks,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues Airplaying from your Mac to Sonos.

I figure that since the Mac can see the speakers but keeps reverting back to your other devices leads me to believe that a connection isn’t finalizing somewhere, or the Mac isn’t recognizing the speakers as an audio device and reverts back.

I’d suggest making sure your Sonos system and MacOS are fully up to date. If everything is up to date, then reboot your router, speakers, and Mac in that order by powering them off for one to two minutes. Once everything is back online, try the Airplay connection again.

If you are able to use a different airplay device, like an iPhone or iPad, try to see if you get the same issue. It would be good to narrow down where the issue lies.

I hope this helps!
