After the fateful upgrade the balance slider in the equaliser would not work. It would move but not change the speaker balance.
Now the actual balance slider in the EQ has gone ! This has happened between 22 & 23 May 2024
any suggestions re getting it back and making it work .

That’s odd. I have a Balance slider on all of my rooms with a stereo pair including an Amp. What is connected to your Amp? You might consider rebooting your Amp.
Thank you the advice but it made no difference I still have no balance.!
For no apparent reason I had also lost the ability to control the surround, I off loaded the app and reloaded it and got that facility back but still no balance.
