Just an update to my several months nightmare ownership of a pair of Era 100s.

Over a period of 5 months I have spent nearly 3 hours on the phone with tech support trying to get my speakers working with my system.

The first problem was that I wanted to play my music library, but the software would not let me add the My Music folder or to access a NAS folder. The tech eventually cobbled it together by setting up a guest account on my computer, but that failed the next time I rebooted the computer. After  sometime Sonos rehashed the software to allow addition of my music library, but no playlists were available. Now the latest idea is, that although the software still has the add My Music section, you must ignore this and set it up as NAS but direct the command line to your Music Folder. What a lashup!

The other problem which seems to remain unfixed is that Airplay will not work at all if you use a VPN (don’t most people?).  If you switch the VPN off it will connect and start playing. If you are lucky it might play a full track, but will drop connection at some point quite quickly, so totally unusable.

Having become totally frustrated with these speakers, I ordered a HomePod and I had instant access to my music library and am now using Airplay without any issues (with my VPN connected).

Final update - I have solved all the issues with these speakers -I returned my Sonos Eras to my local shop as being not fit for purpose and received a full refund.

I am still stuck with the ARC +Sub but it works fine for the TV. It just means that I can’t stream my music to it. Even with that thought it was several months before the updated app allowed you to tune the system to your room.

Bottom line is that I will never buy another Sonos product, as although they can design excellent speaker enclosures they do not have the skills to develop on operating system.
