Background:I will have a Wifi Access Point - that is wired directly to my router - in my living room with the Sonos gear (Arc Ultra, Sub 4, ERA 300's), so my wifi signal will be strong. I can also hard-wire that gear (probably the ARC) to my router as well. I've read where wifi is sufficient, but I like to cover all my bases at installation time, so I don't have to run wires at a later time. With that said, I'm considering using wifi, but connecting the ARC to an ethernet cable that is NOT connected to my router, but could be in case of a future issue.

Question: Will simply connecting the ARC to an un-attached ethernet cable prevent the ARC (and rest of the Sonos gear) from leveraging wifi? Some systems see an ethernet connection and immediately give the hardwired connection a priority.

Thanks,

-PH

Why not just not plug the Ethernet cable into the Arc?

I think in most situations you are better off going all WiFi today, the mixed mode or Sonosnet options have their places but not as a first choice.

Odd, as I run in mixed mode myself. Most devices I have run off of SonosNet via a wired BOOST, my Sonos Roam hangs off my WiFi. I’ve never had an issue running in mixed mode.
