Why isn’t now playing consistent across devices?

If I start playing something on one device (my phone) and sometime later look at now playing on another device (my iPad) it’s not correct. 

It shows the correct queue but can’t tell what track in the queue is playing. Usually it tells me that it is the first track in the queue.

Needless to say this never used to happen

 

*also, this community asks you to select a topic but the app isn’t a topic heading. All of my problems relate to the app
