Turntable not as loud on speaker as inline

Daft question - turntable plugged in via aux - works fine but volume is definitely lower than playing direct via App etc. 
 

is this because it’s aux input or maybe the power output is not high on the turntable 

a relatively cheap audio technica type I have add a few years. 
 

or is that normal

You likely need to add an inexpensive pre-amp between the turntable and the Sonos. The turntable puts out what is called a ‘phono’ output level, Sonos is looking for what is called ‘line level’, which is what most everything else puts out (CD, tape, etc).

Many thanks - make sense to me and just picked up what I think cheap of eBay - 15 quid. Good feedback and describes exactly my query . Cheers
