iOS Music App

I am considering a Sonos Play 1 but I am not interested in their app. I would like to use the iOS builtin music app, or iTunes from my laptop. From what I can tell the Sonos app does not even update the play counts or the time of last time of play on the songs I’m listenting to. I am also not interested in streaming music. Most of these streaming services don’t allow you to stream at full audio lossless quality (I am aware of the bandwidth constraints and I’m not willing to compress my music as a trade off for using less bandwidth). I have all my music on my laptop and some on my iPhone encoded in lossless format. I would like to just plug in my phone into the speaker and play using an aux input sometimes. Wireless at other times. 50/50 split between the two. Airplay would support the wireless use case since I don’t want to use the Sonos app, but it doesn’t like the play 1 supports air play. I am starting to think this speaker is just not made for this kind of use case and I’m better off with a fully wired speaker. Although those speakers don’t support wireless, at least I have the choice to use the music app I want. Before I reject the Play 1 I wanted to see if maybe I’m missing something. I’m pretty sure as far as aux input the answer is no. However, I’m not sure about having to use the Sonos app. Can I use the builtin iOS music app? Or iTunes on my computer? As long as I don’t need to use the Sonos app I might consider the play 1 although I’m guessing I won’t be able to control multiple speakers without their app, which means I won’t use Sonos for my entire house solution.
The Sonos ecosystem is not for you. There is no support at this moment for Airplay, although Sonos has indicated that Airplay 2 will be coming in 2018. There is no line-in on the Sonos One or PLAY:1, so you wouldn't be able to use your headphone jack as a way to use the Apple application to play the music.

Sonos is a streaming whole home system. The app itself doesn't actually play any music, it is a remote control which tells the computer in each speaker where to get the music it is playing, either from an internet stream, or from a local database, which can be on your phone, your computer's HD, or an NAS. The actual "player" isn't the controller, but the software within the speaker(s).

I'd recommend that you look elsewhere, and particularly for wired speakers.
