Hi guys, having bought my wife the Sonos One for Christmas, I only just set it up. I want to know how to play music from an iPhone playlist (not Apple Music) to the Sonos using voice commands. I have the Sonos App and Amazon Alexa app on the iPhone and can see all my music on the On my iPhone tab.

If you start the Audio output from the App you can then control via voice.

Hi mate, thanks for the tips and link. So, if I were to begin playing a song by selecting it from the Sonos app, I can adjust the audio. But then, if I want another song, do I need to select it from the phone again? Or can I then use a voice command like 'Alexa, play *************'?
As I understand it, you play music through Alexa by saying"Alexa, play The Beatles on The Living Room"....(i named my Sonos Sound Bar "Living Room" in my Alexa app.). She will play The Beatles through one of your Music Services ( I heart radio, Pandora, Amazon music, etc. Whichever you have chosen for music). However, unless you have downloaded your playlist on your iPhone to your Amazon Music, Alexa won't play it. You can Google how to do that. I just gave up and just use my music service for music on my Sonos Sound bar and Bluetooth my iPhone to Bluetooth speakers. Oh well.
Thanks jmaccar. On the Sonos app, under the Browse tab I have a section labelled 'On this iPhone'. Does that mean I can voice control all the songs under that tab? I will of course give this a try myself as soon as I get the chance. But I'm sure I somehow managed to choose a song via voice command... but as stated I was a bit tired and out of it so may have actually click selected the song and then only changed the audio via voice! 😉
You can only voice control by name, track, album, artist, music that is streamed from Amazon Music or Spotify at present.
Music from every other source (Local Network Drive, iPhone Music, PC stored music and music services not listed above) started on the Sonos app from a controller (Iphone, Ipad, Tablet, PC or Mac,) can be controlled in a limited way. This includes, Next Track, Previous Track, Pause, Play and Volume up and down. So if you start a playlist, on the Sonos App, on your iPhone for the music stored on that phone you can then voice control it in the limited way. Once the playlist finishes or you want to play a different playlist or album then you will need to revert to the Sonos controller app on the phone.

If you follow the play list after you've created it this should work.
Thanks. It seems us iOS users will just have to wait for Siri and Airplay 2 to arrive sometime this year.
Not necessarily, I'd be surprised if Sonos don't introduce this in 2018 - just my personal view.
What makes you say that? Surely they can't say they'll do something and then don't do it! Can they???
I bought the One on the basis that Airplay 2 and Siri were coming this year.
Only on the amount of requests for this functionality on this forum and whilst there hasn't been a commitment to deliver by a certain time frame Sonos haven't ruled it out. The challenge is that it isn't in the sole ability of Sonos to deliver, Apple and Amazon will need to be involved with their own development priorities.
In which case, those like me who bought it on believing Siri and Airplay would come, can return their devices for a refund I would hope 🙂
Sonos have said it will be here in 2018, all I'm saying it's more difficult to predict when you are dealing with Apple and Amazon. 🙂
Absolutely agree. Especially when it comes to Apple. How many devices have promised AppleKit support, only for several months... even a year later, no sign of AppleKit support.
I really must move away from Apple! But I'm entrenched in their eco-system!!!:(
🙂 Yep, couldn't agree more. My personal experience is they tie you up in Non Disclosure Agreements, place so many restrictions on what you can and can't do and then at the last moment the solution they deliver is widely different to the one expected or spec'd. 😠
We need to be more smart and not allow ourselves to be swayed by the sparkles!
I'm not one to change any device when something new and better comes out, so I'm going to wait till my iPhone is on last legs and then will consider moving back over to Android. I'm a film producer and editor (nothing major, just indies) so Apple is / was the place to be due to their editing software etc. But now that there's been a swift change in that area, things could change for me also 😃
