I have old Play 1 speakers (2014 or older) and have purchased 2 new One SL speakers. Can I group them and be able to use airplay to play on all speakers?

Yes, they can be grouped, just not stereo paired. AirPlay 2 would be sent to the Sonos One SL speaker, that gets it into the Sonos ecosystem, so any speaker grouped with that will play the data.
