Hi community, I’m located in Melbourne, Australia. I purchased a Sonos move yesterday and spent all afternoon going around in circles trying to get it setup in the Sonos app using my home wifi, however I continually ran into the same error 1,101 with a caption “there was a problem checking for updates”. This occurs after I have added my wifi password to the Sonos. I have tried factory resetting the Sonos, I have tried on my neighbours wifi, we also tried to setup the Sonos is the shop, but ran into the same problem. The shop assistant also unboxed another Sonos move, however the same problem persisted. We believe we have ruled out issues with wifi and the unit, and suspect the problem must be with the iPhone application. I really do not want to change to Bose, so would be incredible appreciative if anyone has the answer? Thank you!

Hi, I had the exact same problem when trying to set up my Move 1 with the Sonos IOS app and was convinced it was an issue with my router. However in the end it appears it is an app issue as the following worked for me:

  1. Installed the Sonos windows app onto laptop
  2. Factory reset the Move
  3. Used the IOS app to commence adding the Move
  4. Enter WiFi network details (same network as laptop of course)
  5. Once the app has connected the Move to the WifI network and provides the error about checking for updates, run the Windows Sonos app and it should allow you to search for devices on the network.  In my case it found the Move and allowed me to add it to my Sonos account and updated the software.
  6. Immediately after this, the IoS app didn’t show the Move.  I then reset the app and it appeared on next log in (refer Account > App Preferences > Reset App).

Hope this helps

Huge help, thanks! That seems to have worked! Although I have reset the app and it is not appearing under my products, nor is it in the Bluetooth settings app of my iPhone.
