I follow the connection instructions and I keep getting an error message saying the connection failed and to try again later. Any tips?

Many people are having the same issue but Sonos does not have any updates nor providing solution for that particular problem.
There are some major issues with this new controller app they released recently. It may be a month or so before setup issues are resolved.
