For those who can’t quite seem to grasp why Sonos can’t support older versions of iOS. Apple’s policies dictate. Sonos must play by Apple’s rules.

Besides, Sonos not allowing at least partial support for old versions of apps is their business decision not Apple or Google.
“Eventually, though, you can bet that Apple will require all app updates—changes to existing apps, not just wholly new apps—to support the iPhone X. That's going to cause more of a scramble in the development community.”
It doesn't say what you think it says and has zero to do with Sonos supporting older versions of their apps. They simply have to update them for newer versions of iOS which requires either nothing or is very trivial. Supporting the iPhone X screen is laughably trivial to do.
