Hi all, I have the Sonos Ark with SL1 spks for right and left surround sound behind me. I have the sonos amp and sub as well.My questions is I don't feel that I get much from the Ark upfiring spks!(set to max in app) Could I add two ceiling spks to give me better sound from above? I hope this makes sense. Cheers Andy.
Hi. I think the short answer here is No. You can have the Ones as surrounds or the Amp + speakers, but not both.
The reason you aren’t getting much from the upfiring speakers might be at least partly down to there not being much for this on the soundtracks of the films you are watching, but obviously I have no way of knowing this.
Thanks.
How tall is your ceiling? Is it flat and without any obstructions? How far are you seated from the Arc?
Hi, ceiling in about 8ft and no obstructions. Sit about 10 feet from Ark 2.
Andy
If you can move 1-2 feet closer to the Arc, it may help you hear the height channel effects better. Also, setting the Height Audio level to max is probably too loud and can actually make hearing the height channels more difficult.
If you have Apple Music, a good height channel test is the song “Staircase” by Steven Wilson. At the 6:41 mark you will hear a woman’s voice speaking from the height channels for the next 1.5 minutes. This will give you plenty of time to adjust the Height Audio level so it sounds balanced with the front channel drivers on the Arc.
