Hoping someone has this exact setup and can give me some configuration advice.  I just bought a Beam Gen 2 and was all excited about getting it hooked up to my Sony Bravia 55-in smart TV.  It didn’t work out as planned though.  I first ran into - and later resolved - the S1 vs S2 Sonos app because until I bought the Beam Gen 2 I had an entirely S1 (old-er) Sonos system that worked fine.  So now I have most of my speakers from the S1 transferred over to S2 and the Beam Gen 2 is there.  I still have one problem speaker (a Play 5) that’s still S1 and I have to reconnect it from scratch - but that’s a question for another day.  Today’s question is that despite (even with Sonos Tech Support help) I still can’t get the Beam Gen 2 to connect with the Sony Bravia TV.  It is plugged into an ARC-HDMI connector as required, but whatever we (Tech Support and I) tried, nothing seemed to work.  We concluded that the problem lies with the TV rather than the Beam Gen 2, and that’s the reason for my question.  If anyone in the community has such a setup, I’d really appreciate any info you could provide on appropriate TV settings so I can get Beam Gen 2 to work with it.  Thanks in advance.

Try this:

Disconnect everything from the TV and unplug the Beam and TV from power for a couple of minutes. Plug everything back in but keep everything disconnected. Make sure Bravia Sync is enabled in the TV settings. Run TV Setup in the Sonos app and follow the app instructions. When the app instructs you, connect the Beam to the TV’s HDMI ARC port using the Sonos-supplied HDMI cable. After the Beam has been successfully connected, connect any other devices to the TV.

Make sure you are actually using the correct HDMI port. If the above steps don’t work, use the optical adapter that came with the Beam and connect it to the TV’s optical port.

Thanks very much.  I’ll try this tonight and post results.

Our Sonys and Beams all connected without problems.

Only thing I did extra, as suggested above, was to unplug all the other HDMI cables and power-cycle before the install.

Are you using the Sonos cable? Is it fully seated at both ends?

Which Sony TV?

Even if it is a question for later just remember the Sonos Play 5 (gen 1) does not do S2.

GuitarHero: Thank you very much - your solution did work.  Everything appears to be working as it should.  I’ll remember this lesson for future problems.  I did not have to use the optical connection.  The HDMI/ARC worked.

Stanley_4: Thank you very much.  I was using the SONOS-provided cable and it was firmly seated at both ends.  Television is a Sony Bravia XBR-55X900E 55” smart TV.

106rallye: Thank you very much for your input.

This community is wonderful.  Super helpful - and resolved my problems regarding the Beam Gen 2.
