Using passive speakers that are NOT purchased from Sonos as surround speakers connected via AMP to a Arc Ultra - Will True Play optimize the passive surrounds?

Thank you,

Hi @AjTrek1

When TruePlay Tuning a Home Theatre room, the main device is the soundbar at the front. Basically, this device can still be tuned even if the surrounds being used with it are not Sonance. I don’t know to what extent it works, or how it compensates, but it is possible to do the tuning. Perhaps the surrounds are left out of the process, perhaps they are not - I can’t find an explanation.

The short answer is “No”.

Although I’m not surprised by your answer, I was surprised by the Sonos Support BOT. Not sure whether to chalk this up to bad AI or what...:

Ha Ha!

Need to send the BOT back to school 😂

Supported Sonos products

Trueplay tuning is supported by all Sonos products except Port, Connect, and Roam SL. Trueplay is also supported when Sonos is configured as a stereo pair, surround sound home theater, and when a Sub or Sub Mini has been added.

Amp

An Amp supports Trueplay when using Sonos In-Wall or In-Ceiling by Sonance Architectural speakers with the Amp. It is not available for the Sonos Outdoor by Sonance Architectural speakers.

Amp also supports Trueplay when powering Sonos rear channels in a home theater setup.

Here’s the link to above. The key words are Sonos and/or Sonance

Hi @AjTrek1

No need - the bot got it right.

You even mentioned the key line:

Amp also supports Trueplay when powering Sonos rear channels in a home theater setup.

Even when using non-Sonance speakers connected to Amp, if Amp is doing rear-surround duty, it will not prevent the rest of the room from TruePlaying.

I hope this helps.

So it can’t/wont optimise Third Party speakers? But will optimise the Sonos devices?

@Corry P

My take was that regardless of Trueplay working for Sonos soundbar and sub; the 3rd party speakers (non Sonance) would not participate? How would 3rd party speakers participate if the Amp can’t recognize them?
