I have a playbar and 2 1 sl and get intermittent ound loss do to wifi issues. Looking to switch to sononet but how will the android app work if the speakers are  noton my default wifi network

The Sonos device that is connected via Lan to your router is the „bridge“ to connect SonosNet and your router wifi / network. 
So your mobile device is connected to your router wifi and the Sonos „root bridge“ connects to the SonosNet devices.

Right.  The label for that configuration is technically correct, but people due tend to think of sonosnet as something other than WiFi, since it’s not the WiFi generated from their home router.  What the switch actually does is turn off the WiFi radio in the speaker, so that it can’t communicate wirelessly at all and would need to be connected via ethernet cable.
