Hello There Sonos Community!

I am considering going all in with sonos products for my new living room, but I need to clarify a few points. Desired setup:

  • Sonos Arc - Connected to the TV via HDMI and Connected to the network via a ethernet cable

  • Sonos Sub (gen 3) - Connected to the network via a ethernet cable

  • Sonos Amp + 4 in Ceiling Speakers - Connected to the network via a ethernet cable

As all devices will be connected to the network via ethernet, I plan to disable wifi.

My understating is that as the Arc will be connected to the TV, it will "orchestrate" the other speakers. Which means I won't need to connect the Sub nor the Amp to the TV. Is that right? Will the act be able to create a "5.1" experience (arc+sub+in celling speakers)?

I wanted to use the 4 Ceiling Speakers to create an immersive TV experience, I plan on installing 2 on top of the TV and on behind the couch. But, from what I read, as this are passive speakers connected to a single amp, I would get the same sound on all 4 speakers, as a result, I would get "sound from behind" coming from the front. If that is correct, I will remove 2 in-ceiling speakers and install 2 being the couch.

And last, but not least, If I want to play music on the in-ceiling speakers while someone is watching TV, can I "temporary" create "2 zones"? TV = Arc + Sub and Music on the in-ceiling speakers. If yes, is that something easy to do or will it take me 10 minutes to recreate the setup?

Hi @m4mazzotti, thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the Sonos community. I appreciate you for providing the details on your post. Let me help you with this.

Your desired setup will work for Sonos as it will create a SonosNet to have a stable network connection. No worries about disabling the WiFi on your Sonos devices since they are wired to your router.

Yes, the Sonos Arc, Amp + in-ceiling speakers (surround) and the Sub will create a 5.1 home theater setup.

The Sonos Amp works with traditional 8-ohm bookshelf speakers as well as pairs of 6 or 4-ohm speakers that you can connect via the banana plugs. You can check out this article about connecting four speakers to your Sonos Amp to guide you through.

If you want to watch TV and play music at the same time, you need to remove the Sonos Amp as surround and in the home theater set up. Your Sonos Amp will be in a separate room for you to play music. This can be done in less than 10 minutes. If you want to re-setup your home theater, you just need to add back your Sonos Amp.

Hope I was able to answer your questions.

If you need help with any other information, please be sure to let us know.

Thank you so much for taking your time to help me!

From what I understood, having an Arc + Sub + 2 speakers located on top of my couch would be enough for a 5.1 experience. Am I correct?

Also, I saw on the n Ceiling Speakers product page that they have 123 mm of height. My ceiling has 120 mm + 20 mm of thickness. So, my understanding is that it will fit just fine. Can you confirme the 123 mm is from the very bottom of the speakers till the very top?

Hi @m4mazzotti, thank you for your response. We really appreciate it.

Yes, the Sonos Arc + 2 speakers + Sub will give you a 5.1 home theater experience. You can also enjoy Dolby Atmos with your Arc provided your TV has an eARC available.

If you're referring to the In-Ceiling speaker from our website, under Features and specs, that's correct. It's the height of the speaker from the bottom to the top.

You can tune your Sonos speakers with Trueplay. During the Trueplay tuning, the Arc will detect the ceiling type and calibrate accordingly.

We can also wait for suggestions and feedback from our Sonos community users for the setup that they may suggest. You may also contact our Sales specialists through phone or email where you can send the floor plan for further assistance.

Please feel free to reach out in the future if you have any other questions.

You're always welcome here.
