I had automated updates enabled and the rest of my system has successfully been upgraded to build 16.2 but the Bean Gen 2 has failed.

The Beam Gen 2 is stuck with the alternate flashing Red and White lights which indicate a failed update. I can no longer see the system in the app.

I have tried the following without success.

  • Reboot the device
  • Reset to Factory Settings
  • Unplug for 24 hours and reboot|
  • Changed from wireless to direct ethernet connection (via Eero)

Anything else I can try? Product support in the UK are offline currently despite being working hours. The system is less than a year old.

Hey @Mike Hope,

Welcome to the Sonos Community and thanks for reaching out.

Sorry to hear your Beam was no longer functioning as intended, but I appreciate all the steps you had taken already. I can see you reached out to our support team which would have been the next step suggested here.

Hope you continue to enjoy music and TV sound on Sonos!

Support sent out a new Beam as under warranty.

New Beam arrived.
Connect to app and started update to 16.2 - all worked well
Added the Sub Mini to the setup - all worked well
Went to add the surround SLs - app showed failure - try again in a never ending loop.
Closed app - and started again. Beam missing from the system.
Tried a factory reset - back to being a brick, flashing red and white light

Somehow got this working again.

Moved device into the same room as my router.
Tried multiple factory resets, normal reboots, both wired and wireless, these would fail.
Left unplugged for several hours but did not appear to make a difference.
Did get random sequences of lights

  • Red/White - Update failed
  • Flashing White - Booting but stayed like that for hours

Almost when given up all hope and getting ready to call support for an hour the light went solid white. Device appeared in the app again and was able to add the sub and surrounds to the Bean.

If you have this, just keep trying with the factory resets and boots and fingers crossed.
